Celebrating the birth of the United States takes center stage when the 11th annual Patriotism At The Post is held at historic Barnhardt Circle in Fort Oglethorpe, Ga., on Monday, July 3, at 7:30 p.m.
Festivities include a patriotic concert and sing-along, food, kids' activities, coloring contest and Most Patriotic Boy and Girl clothing contest. The event will conclude with fireworks at dusk.
Children ages 10 and younger can compete for prizes in the patriotic apparel contest by wearing red, white and blue clothing. The Patriotic Kids coloring contest winners will be announced during opening ceremonies. Boy Scout Troop 316 from Flintstone, Ga., will present the colors.
Tabernacle Big Band is the concert headliner with its 1940s-era band of trumpets, trombones, saxophones and rhythm section. The band performs jazz and patriotic arrangements as well as swing music. Song sheets will be available for the patriotic sing-along to encourage the audience to join in. All military veterans will be recognized and asked to stand when their service hymn is played during the "Service Salute."
"The Army Post at Fort Oglethorpe played a huge role in the development of our nation," says Chris McKeever, director of the 6th Cavalry Museum and member of the Fort Oglethorpe Tourism Association. "What better place to celebrate our nation's birth than here on the polo field with great music, family fun and fireworks?"
Admission to Patriotism At The Post is free and there is a $5 per car parking fee.
