(AP Photo/David Manning)Georgia junior power forward Trey Thompkins will enter the 2011 NBA draft and plans to hire an agent, Bulldogs coach Mark Fox announced Tuesday.
The 6-foot-10 Thompkins has been a first-team All-Southeastern Conference selection the past two seasons, when he led the Bulldogs in scoring and rebounding. Georgia finished this past season with a 21-12 record, losing to Washington 68-65 in the first round of the NCAA tournament.
"I have spoken with my family and coaches about my situation, and I feel that it's best for me to forgo my senior season and enter the NBA draft," Thompkins said in a released statement. "I would just like to thank everyone who has supported me in this decision."
Thompkins averaged 16.4 points and 7.6 rebounds this season and finished his Georgia career with 1,396 points and 693 rebounds.
"We certainly appreciate Trey's contributions to the program, and we wish him well in the pursuit of his dreams," Fox said.
Bulldogs junior guard Travis Leslie has decided to submit his name to the list of underclassmen for the NBA draft but will not hire an agent. The deadline for underclassmen to withdraw from draft consideration and maintain their eligibility is May 8.
The 6-4 Leslie has 1,099 career points.
"Travis has exercised his right to test the waters as a junior," Fox said. "We will help him manage that process in a timely manner."
