Syria descends into civil war

The Middle Eastern nation of Syria, a hotbed for terrorism, has sunk into outright civil war. More than 4,000 citizens have been killed in the small country of perhaps 23 million people.

Syrians want to end the oppressive regime of President Bashar Assad.

We don't blame them.

But as we noted in the editorial above about the revolution in Egypt, there is tragically no guarantee that good leaders will replace Assad if he is ultimately driven from power. And that is terribly regrettable.
