Exit 9 opening delayed

The end-of-January completion date for I-75's exit 9 and a four-way signalized interchange at the intersection of Old Lee Highway and Apison Pike has been pushed back to mid-February.

"We are confident that we will meet that date," said Tennessee Department of Transportation Regional Community Relations Officer Jennifer Flynn. "The only thing that might prevent it is if we had rain, snow, ice or freezing temperatures every day between now and mid-February, and that does not appear to be the case, thank goodness."

According to Flynn, the contractor is currently completing the final paving, pavement marking and is grading the slopes at the intersection, which will be planted with grass once complete. She said drivers should be patient and keep in mind it won't take much longer to access the new route.

"Be careful, be patient and be aware of roadway conditions," she said in regards to the intersection's current confusing state. "The Apison Pike connector to I-75 and Volkswagen Drive is nearing completion, and an official announcement on its opening date will come out shortly."
