MOCK DRAFT

Times Free Press columnist Jay Greeson projects what could happen in tonight's first round of the NFL draft.

1. Tampa Bay -- Jameis Winston, Florida State

The Bucs have pieces in places but were dreadful at quarterback. The only other options would be Marcus Mariota or potentially trading down, but Winston seems to have connected with the Bucs' decision-makers, especially coach Lovie Smith.

2. San Diego (from Tennessee for Philip Rivers and No. 17 pick) -- Marcus Mariota, Oregon

Win-win for each side, especially if the Titans are not sold on Mariota. It addresses Tennessee's awful quarterback situation for the next three to five years and delivers another top-20 first-round pick for a roster that needs a lot of help.

3. Jacksonville -- Dante Fowler, Florida

Talks have Fowler being extremely popular, and the Jaguars could sell this pick to the highest bidder. Here's thinking they keep it.

4. Oakland -- Amari Cooper, Alabama

It would not shock many for the Raiders to covet West Virginia receiver Kevin White, who has better speed than Cooper, but the former Tide star is more polished and simply a better prospect. He and Leonard Williams project as the two surest bets among the elite prospects.

5. Washington -- Leonard Williams, Southern Cal

The Redskins would have loved Fowler -- and Washington could be looking to move down, especially with someone like Atlanta -- but Williams is too good to pass up.

6. New York Jets -- Vic Beasley, Clemson

The Jets may look to draft offensive tackle D'Brickashaw Ferguson's long-term replacement, but Beasley is an incredible athlete.

7. Chicago -- Danny Shelton, Washington

Likely the draft's best need-value marriage is the Bears addressing their awful defensive tackle situation with Shelton.

8. Atlanta -- Bud Dupree, Kentucky

The Falcons could gamble on either of the recent edge rushers who have made marijuana headlines recently in Shane Ray or Randy Gregory. Dupree's extreme athleticism makes him a valuable addition to a pass rush that was stationary at best last season.

9. New York Giants -- Brandon Scherff, Iowa

Like for the Bears, need and value converge and the Giants likely will get their pick of the litter at tackle.

10. St. Louis -- Andreus Peat, Stanford

The Rams are an extreme wild card. They could move up and chase a quarterback. They could move back and continue to stock one of the league's best overall rosters. If they stay, they could pull the trigger on White, the West Virginia wideout, or address the offensive line with Peat. Here's saying they do the latter.

11. Minnesota -- Trae Waynes, Michigan State

It would be tempting for the Vikings to look at Todd Gurley and officially cut ties with Adrian Peterson. Still, the Vikings secondary needs help.

12. Cleveland -- Kevin White, West Virginia

Perfect replacement for Josh Gordon for the Browns and great value for a wideout who a lot of people think is more explosive than Alabama's Cooper and could be an All-Pro return guy.

13. New Orleans -- Randy Gregory, Nebraska

The Saints get a a top-five talent who is falling because of multiple failed drug tests and but play s a position of desperate need for New Orleans.

14. Miami -- Shane Ray, Missouri

Replacing a drug-suspended first-rounder with another. Still, you have to understand the risk since the Dolphins are getting a top-five pass rusher at 14.

15. San Francisco -- Arik Armstead, Oregon

There's trade potential here -- and there assuredly will be more than most figure since there have been 42 first-round deals in the last three years -- but Armstead fits in a lot of areas.

16. Houston -- DeVante Parker, Louisville

The Texans are another trade candidate considering the biggest need is at quarterback, but there is no quarterback value here. So Houston gets Andre Johnson's replacement, which fills another need.

17. Tennessee (pick from San Diego) -- Todd Gurley, Georgia

This is a dream scenario for the Titans, and Gurley could be a target of a half-dozen teams ahead of this pick.

18. Kansas City -- Phillip Dorsett, Miami

Dorsett can flat fly, and the Chiefs are starved for game-changers at receiver.

19. Cleveland -- Mario Edwards Jr., Florida State

Edwards can be a guy who can play inside or outside and get to the quarterback either way.

20. Philadelphia -- Kevin Johnson, Wake Forest

The talks and screams are about Chip Kelly looking to move up and his love for Mariota. If the Eagles stay here, a cornerback like Johnson makes good sense.

21. Cincinnati -- Jake Fisher, Oregon

This is a solid pick and one the Bengals would hope develops.

22. Pittsburgh -- Marcus Peters, Washington

Another big need met as the Steelers seek a cornerback. Pittsburgh would love for Johnson to fall here -- coach Mike Tomlin loves Johnson -- but Peters is ready to play, too.

23. Detroit -- Cam Erving, Florida State

He's ready to play and is very versatile. Clearly the best center on the board.

24. Arizona -- Melvin Gordon, Wisconsin

This would be the dream scenario for the Cardinals, who get their biggest need with a big talent.

25. Carolina -- Nelson Agholor, Southern Cal

Another piece on the perimeter for a Panthers offense in big need of one.

26. Baltimore -- Breshad Perriman, Central Florida

A great showing at his pro day displayed elite speed for Perriman, whose father had a lengthy NFL career, and jumps him into the first round.

27. Dallas -- Landon Collins, Alabama

Owner Jerry Jones loves to make a splash on draft day, and this kind of qualifies with the best player at a position the Cowboys must address.

28. Denver -- Cedric Ogbuehi, Texas A&M

A first-round talent -- he would have been a higher pick last year, honestly -- who would get a quick hug from Peyton Manning.

29. Indianapolis -- Damarious Randall, Arizona State

A versatile defensive back who can play safety or corner gives the Colts an instant starter in a secondary that needs help.

30. Green Bay -- D.J. Humprhies, Florida

This is a nice addition for a team always looking for offensive linemen. Some people believe Humprhies is the most talented tackle in the draft.

31. Seattle -- Jaelen Strong, Arizona State

Think the Seahawks could have used a big, strong 6-foot-3 receiver at the goal line in the Super Bowl?

32. New England -- Malcolm Brown, Texas

This would so be a Bill Belichick pick, replacing Vince Wilfork with a monster body like Brown.
