The Chattanooga Area Chamber of Commerce celebrated its annual meeting in August when more than 1,200 members gathered to hear FedEx Chairman Fred Smith talk about the innovations that drove his company's success since its start in 1973. The Chamber's new chairman, Roy Vaughn of BlueCross BlueShield of Tennessee, also took over from former Chamber chair Michael Mathis of Regions bank.
UTC seniors pitch building ideas
Interior design students at the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga gave their ideas for how to reuse the vacant Mayfield Annex building near the Hamilton County Courthouse, formerly the Elks Lodge built in 1906, and the Parkway Towers near Finley Stadium, originally built in 1919 as the Tennessee River Power Plant. Cornerstones Inc. and UTC's Interior Design Department reviewed the senior thesis exhibits.
