Dalton State's Green signs with Canada pro team and more Chattanooga region sports news

Ladaris Green, the 6-foot-10 center for Dalton State's NAIA national champion team last winter, has joined the newest entry in the National Basketball League of Canada. The Niagara River Lions announced his signing Monday in St. Catharines, Ontario. He was the Lions' fifth signee, according to general manager and head coach Ken Murry. Training camp opens on Dec. 1 for the season starting late in December. Green led NAIA Division I in defensive rebounds and was second in total rebounds, averaging 11.61 per game, as Dalton State went 32-4 in the 2014-15 season.

Volleyball

* Briana Reid had 15 kills and nine digs and Allie Davenport had 11 kills as the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga volleyball team rose to 3-0 in the Southern Conference with a 3-0 victory (25-23, 25-17, 25-18) Tuesday at Wofford. Backup setter Madison Bergren had 35 assists and Catherine Chason had 20 digs for the Mocs (14-2), who won for the 10th time in a row and have the best start in program history.

* Bryan College won 3-0 over both Appalachian Athletic Conference rival Tennessee Wesleyan (25-20, 25-7, 25-15) and Life (25-22, 25-20, 25-9) on Tuesday in Dayton. Shelby Grace Enochs had 24 assists, Kara Stamper and Meghan Wallace had nine and seven kills and Kayla Rymer had 11 digs against TWC for Bryan (12-10, 8-1). Against Life, Stamper had 11 kills and Wallace and Rachel Mosley each had eight, while Enochs had 31 assists and 13 digs. Life won 25-19, 25-20, 25-15 over TWC (6-9).

* Ginny Moore had 16 kills and 10 digs, Schuyler Moore had 32 assists, Chelsea VanDyk had 10 kills and Ariana Buchanan had 20 digs as Covenant College (5-8) beat Sewanee 3-0 (25-19, 25-10, 26-24) in NCAA Division III volleyball Tuesday night on Lookout Mountain. Walker Buxton had six kills and 15 assists to lead Sewanee (9-6), whle Sara Jayne Sutton had 11 digs.

* Michala Askew had 34 assists and 19 digs and Kianna Delaney had 14 kills and 14 digs for the Dalton State volleyball team Tuesday night, but the Roadrunners lost 3-1 (22-25, 25-23, 25-23, 25-23) in Southern States Athletic Conference play at Brenau. Savannah Nelson had eight kills and Martin Guntin and Wendy Perez had seven apiece for Dalton State (5-8, 1-5), while Anna Metzler had 12 digs with six kills.

* The Georgia Northwestern volleyball team pulled out a first-set win Monday against visiting Hiwassee despite playing much of it with only five players, but even with six players the rest of the way the Lady Bobcats were worn down in a 3-1 loss. Hiwassee won 23-25, 26-24, 25-15, 25-11. Abbey Hannah had 15 kills and nine digs, Nicole Rayburn had 10 kills and 10 assists and Madison Killen had 18 digs for GNTC (0-9), which had got 23 digs from Killen and 20 assists from Rayburn in Friday's 3-0 loss to Crown.

Golf

* The Dalton State women's golf team shot a final-round 303 Tuesday and won the Carey Collegiate Fall Classic with a 36-hole 618 at Canebrake Country Club in Hattiesburg, Miss. DSC's Caroline Griffin shot 151 and was the individual winner in a playoff, while teammate Katie Dalton tied for third at 153. Julia McQuilken shot 155, and Erika Wardzinski cut 10 strokes off her Monday score for a 158 total.

* Dalton State's men golfers finished fourth in the Thomas University Fall Invitational at Valdosta, Ga. The Roadrunners wound up at 579 for 36 holes, behind Keiser (555), Coastal Georgia (559) and Darton (578), and Chase Jones tied for eighth individually at 141 with Sean Elliott sharing 14th at 144, Adam Morris shooting 147 and Dalton Johnson shooting 149.

* Georgia Northwestern All-Americans Chase Cole and Jordan Estes shared medalist honors with 143s in the two-day Reinhardt University Invitational golf tournament in Waleska, Ga., but the hosts edged the Bobcats for team honors, 582 to 588. GNTC's Tucker Venable and Grant Allen shot 153s. Bryan College was fourth at 607 out of 11 teams.

Soccer

* Baylor School was one of only 49 high schools that received 2014-15 team academic awards from the National High School Coaches Association of America for both their boys' and girls' sides. The minimum aggregate grade point average for the honor is 3.25 on a 4.0 scale, and the Baylor girls had a 3.62 with the boys compiling a 3.52. Other area teams honored were McCallie (3.68), the Cleveland girls (3.50) and the Tullahoma boys (4.07).

* The newly formed local Premier Soccer Academy under-12 boys' team, the Predators, won the championship of the top division in their 8-v-8 age group at the River Fest Classic this past weekend at Camp Jordan Park. The Predators, based in Red Bank, won 4-2 over the North River CSM 04, 3-0 over the Shoals Soccer Club 04 and then 3-1 over the Shoals SC in the final.
