With Gina Dick scoring 22 points and providing four assists, the Tennessee Wesleyan women's basketball team pulled off a 92-89 upset win Saturday afternoon against visiting Marian, ranked No. 1 in the NAIA. Hunter Simpson had 16 points, five assists and three steals and Madison Walkup had 12 points with four 3-point baskets plus 12 rebounds for the Lady Bulldogs (2-2). Savannah Atkins and Summer Morris scored 11 and 10 points, and Dick hit four free throws in the final 12 seconds to keep Marian (4-1) behind.

* Lee University's men's basketball team opened its season Saturday in West Georgia's tournament with an 85-74 win over Miles College, as Keevin Tyus scored 32 points on 13-of-17 shooting from the field and Jervon Johnson had 13 points and four steals.

* The Lee women are 1-1 after falling 61-45 to Florida Southern, ranked sixth in NCAA Division II, at Lakeland, Fla., in the SSC/GSC Challenge. The Lady Flames led 22-14 after a quarter and trailed 30-29 at halftime but shot only 8-for-36 in the last three quarters. Lindsey Roddy led them with eight points.

* Chattanooga State improved to 5-0 in men's basketball and 2-0 in the TCCAA with a 63-57 home victory over nationally seventh-ranked Southwest Tennessee. The balanced Tigers were led by the Moore brothers from Brainerd, Orlando and Da'V, with 11 and 10 points. Da'V added 10 rebounds in maintaining his double-double average.

* Cleveland State's Cougars, who beat Southwest Tennessee on Friday, rose to 4-0, 2-0 in the TCCAA, with a 91-68 win Saturday against Dyersburg State. Jordan Olison led six double-figure scorers for the Cougars with 20 points, while Victor Curry had 15 plus 14 rebounds. Tevin Olison, Cam Copeland and Romero Hill had 14, 13 and 12 points and Elijah Weems contributed 10 with 10 rebounds. The Lady Cougars (3-2, 1-1) lost 80-59 with Leisa Butler and Catherine Davis each scoring 12 points and Abby Hubert adding 11 in defeat. Samuel Blessing had 22 points, 12 rebounds and four steals for the Dyersburg women, and Kiara Caswell also scored 22.

* The Bryan College women lost 63-57 Saturday to visiting Cumberland, which got 16 points from Taliah Moore. For the Lady Lions (1-2), Megan Billingsby had 20 points, 13 rebounds and four steals, Amber Levi scored 18 points and Tristan McClellan had seven assists. The Bryan men dropped to 1-5 with a 55-50 loss to Blue Mountain at McKenzie, Tenn., after falling 80-70 to host Bethel on Friday night.

* Silverdale Baptist Academy senior Gracie Pierce signed this past week to continue her volleyball career at Trevecca Nazarene University in Nashville. "She has been our emotional leader," SBA coach Nathan Daugherty said, noting that her influence continued even while she was injured and unable to play. "She has more energy than most players (and is) somebody that has encouraged her teammates, and she's hyper. Gracie is a hard worker, and the energy thing will help her a lot." Pierce said she "felt at peace" about TNU after her visit there. "I've had the opportunity to be around the other players on the team, and I am excited to play with them. Their coach has the same morals and values that have been instilled in my life." Of her high school career she said, "I hope my legacy at Silverdale is to love and play for one another, putting teamwork and unity before anything else."

* The Dalton State volleyball team ended its season Friday with two pool-play losses at the Southern States Athletic Conference tournament in Montgomery: 3-0 (25-13, 25-21, 25-20) to Coastal Georgia and 3-1 (25-28, 25-23, 25-18, 28-26) to Loyola of New Orleans.

* UTC volleyball coach Travis Filar will be the guest speaker for the Chattanooga Quarterback Club's noon luncheon meeting Monday at Finley Stadium, and the public is invited. Admission costs $10 with a meal, $4 without. Filar's third-seeded Mocs (17-12, 10-6) will begin Southern Conference tournament play Saturday in Birmingham with a 7:30 p.m. match against sixth seed Mercer.

Soccer

* Second-seeded Dalton State lost 1-0 to No. 1 seed William Carey in the SSAC men's soccer championship game Friday night at Montgomery, Ala.

Running

* The Sewanee men's cross country team finished fifth in the NCAA Division III Southeast Regional meet Saturday at Berry College, and the Tigers' Jackson Goodwin qualified for the national meet with a 12th-place run. Sewanee was 15th and Covenant 17th in the women's race; Covenant's men were 23rd.
