MEMPHIS, Tenn. (AP) - Officials say defending Tennessee Class 2A high school state football champion Trezevant is forfeiting the games it has played this season after an academic review showed evidence of "some grade discrepancies" at the Memphis school.
Shelby County Superintendent of Schools Dorsey Hopson said Thursday that Trezevant's staff was conducting an academic audit "to ensure all students have proper course selection for graduation" when the issue was discovered.
Hopson said Trezevant principal Ronnie Mackin discussed the matter with school district officials and voluntarily reported it to the Tennessee Secondary School Athletic Association. Hopson said a full internal investigation is underway.
Hopson said Trezevant is forfeiting the games it has already played, and all future games, until the internal investigation ends.
