Avery DavisBaylor School junior forward Avery Davis was included on the United Soccer Coaches All-South Region team for the girls' fall season. The USC formerly was the National Soccer Coaches Association of America. The All-South team includes players from Maryland and Kentucky as well as Tennessee, and the closest selections geographically to Davis were from Farragut and Franklin. She plays also for the Chattanooga Football Club Academy. "This is one step below All-American. We are very proud of her," Baylor coach Curtis Blair, adding on her behalf that she "had some great teammates that helped her achieve this award."

» University of Tennessee at Chattanooga women's golf coach Colette Murray announced Tuesday the signing of four players in the early signing period, and two of them are Rheagan Hall from Cleveland High School and Miranda Rich from Ringgold High. Their commitments to the Mocs already had been reported. The other two are Esme Hamilton from England, who tied for 15th in the 2017 English Women's Amateur and was this year's Notts Girls Champion, and Dorota Zalewska from Poland, a two-time Polish Match Play champion and the first Polish golfer to make the European Ladies Championship, which she did this year. "All of these players bring a little something different to our program," Murray said in a UTC release. "Each will play a different role that will make us stronger, better and more competitive both on the course and in the classroom." Specifically of Hall, Murray said, "Rheagan is one of the better players to come from the Chattanooga/Cleveland area in a few years." Rich, she said, "is a good player with a lot of potential. She is a fighter and has clear-cut goals which drive her to succeed."

» Lee University split a pair of nonconference home basketball games Tuesday, routing the Stillman women 81-41 but falling 67-66 to the Freed-Hardeman men. Erin Walsh scored 16 points and Anna Woodford and Shelby Brown added 11 each for the Lady Flames (7-2), Brown with nine rebounds. Carrie Cheeks and Taylor Boggess each grabbed eight rebounds, and Cheeks surpassed 1,000 points for her Lee career. Michael McGuirk scored 21 points in defeat for the Flames (6-2), who got 12 points from Chase Cullen and six assists from Parker Suedekum. They were outscored 35-27 in the second half, when they shot only 36 percent from the field. Marcus Baldwin had 24 points with five 3-point baskets for Freed-Hardeman (2-5).
» The Sewanee men's basketball team defeated visiting Covenant on Tuesday, 92-86, but the Sewanee women lost 76-63 to Berea despite 28 points and five assists from Bella Taylor. Sue Kim and Allison Hitchcock added 13 and 12 points for the female Tigers, who take a 2-5 record into Christmas break. Luke Smith was 5-of-8 on 3s in registering 23 points and five assists for the Sewanee men (4-3), who got 17 points apiece from Adrian Thomas and Cam Caldwell, 15 from Michael Barry and 13 from Hunter Buescher. For Covenant (3-2), Berto Dryden had 30 points with 5-of-6 success on 3s, Patjo Twagirayezu had 15 points and 10 rebounds, Bailey Spragg had 15 points, nine assists and four steals and James Mitchell scored 12 points with four 3s.
» The Georgia Northwestern women improved to 6-1 with a 68-39 home victory over Covenant's junior varsity Tuesday. Jayla Stone had 21 points and eight steals and fellow freshman Taylor Bethune scored 18 points for the Lady Bobcats, who are tied for sixth in the latest USCAA Division II rankings. Tori Harvey and Katy Phillips had five and four assists and matched teammate Tori Hall with three steals apiece. Heather Andrews scored 16 points in defeat. The GNTC men dropped to 2-8 with an 89-71 loss to Tennessee Wesleyan's JV, who got 25 and 23 points from Keyshun Bradley and Danny Bates and 14 from Parker Morgan. Tyler Phillips led the Bobcats with 16, Deontae Jackson and Micah Wheeler adding 12 and 10.
Softball
» Madison Williams of Northwest Whitfield High School and the ProStar Fastpitch club program committed Monday to continue her softball career at Brewton-Parker College in Mount Vernon, Ga. Despite a coaching change there, recruiting interest in the pitcher and outfielder continued under Madison Herrin with assistant coach Nate Tompkins still on staff. Williams has a 3.8 grade point average and said in a ProStar release that she wanted to go to a small college where she could both pitch and play in the field and fulfill her academic needs. "I have visited a few colleges and I kept coming back to the things I liked about Brewton-Parker," she said. "I believe Madison is just now realizing the true extent of her athletic ability and her softball skills," ProStar's Steve Chattin said. "Her best days are definitely ahead of her. She is one of the best outfielders in this area and she is fearless as a competitor. ... She can drop down a bunt and beat it out or she can drive a double off the fence. She understands the game, her role and the role of all of her teammates. ... I expect her to start in her freshman year at BPC in the circle and in the outfield. She will step on the field and be one of the best players on the team."
