Lee's basketball teams split a Gulf South Conference doubleheader Wednesday night at West Alabama, with the Lady Flames winning 66-57 and the men losing 62-56 in Livingston. In the women's matchup, Lee (13-3, 5-2) was led by Carrie Cheeks' 17 points, seven rebounds and two blocks. Lindsey Roddy chipped in 14 points and Erin Walsh 12 for the Lady Flames - who trailed 18-17 after the first quarter but led 30-26 at halftime and 45-38 entering the final period - while Abby Bertram had six assists and Maddie Long five steals. West Alabama (6-9, 3-5) got 14 points from Kierra Groce and 10 from Tazsa Garrett-Hammett. The Lady Flames have won four straight. In the men's game, Lee's only double-digit scorers were Chase Cullen and Michael McGuirk, each with 12 points, while Parker Suedekum added nine. Cullen also had 10 rebounds for the Flames (9-6, 4-4), who led 27-24 at halftime. Charles Eaton scored 24 points, Josh Fleming 11 and DeAndre Harper 10 for West Alabama (11-5, 5-3), which got 10 rebounds and five blocks from Domonique Alexander. Lee has lost three of its past four.
» The Tennessee Wesleyan University basketball teams split an Appalachian Athletic Conference doubleheader Wednesday at Montreat College, with the TWU women winning 87-52 and the Bulldogs falling 114-78. The Lady Bulldogs improved to 10-5 overall and 9-3 in the AAC as they ended their losing streak at two games while dropping their North Carolina hosts to 5-11, 4-7. Scoring in double figures for TWU were Savannah Atkins (15 points), Hunter Simpson (13), Kaitlin Simon (12) and Hannah Troutt and Madison Walkup (10 each). In the men's game, TWU (5-12, 3-7) got 22 points from Andre AppleWhite, 12 from Joshua Chairs and 10 from Todd Landsen, who also grabbed eight rebounds. Fifteen of 16 players scored for Montreat, with a quartet in double figures led by David Caldwell's 24 points. Alonzo Mobley had 16 points and 15 rebounds with five assists for the Cavaliers (15-1, 8-1), whose only loss this season was to No. 2 Union College. The Bulldogs have lost three in a row.
» The Bryan College men won 108-75 in nonconference competition Wednesday at Johnson in Knoxville. The Lions improved to 10-8 while ending their losing streak at three games.
» Adrian Thomas from McCallie School had 21 points and nine rebounds, and Luke Smith scored 19 points with three 3-point baskets in Sewanee's 83-63 basketball win Tuesday night at Boyce in Louisville, Ky. Hunter Buescher added 12 points and five assists for the Tigers (7-6), who used 17 players in their first road victory of the 2017-18 season.
» Georgia Northwestern Technical College lost to the Bryan College junior varsities Tuesday in Dayton, 86-54 in the women's game and 86-53 in the men's. Tori Harvey had 20 points, six rebounds and four steals, and Taylor Bethune and Mia Clark scored 13 and 11 points in defeat for the Lady Bobcats (7-3). The GNTC men fell to 2-10.
