The Ole Miss Rebels are the first Southeastern Conference team to have its 2019 football season come to an end, falling 21-20 in dramatic fashion Thursday night at Mississippi State to conclude a 4-8 disappointment. While the "Kick Six" will forever be associated with the Iron Bowl, the Egg Bowl now has a "Piss and Miss" that nobody will forget for decades to come.
Here are four reasonable objectives for Ole Miss in 2020:
1. Reach a bowl game
The Rebels have gone 6-6, 5-7 and 4-8 in Matt Luke's first three seasons, and 6-6 is probably the ceiling in 2020 given a schedule that has five of the first seven games against teams currently in the top 15 of the College Football Playoff rankings - Baylor, Auburn, LSU, Alabama and Florida.
2. Determine the quarterback
John Rhys Plumlee and Matt Corral are very different, with Plumlee rushing for 1,023 yards and 6.6 yards per carry as a true freshman, and with Corral, a redshirt freshman, posting a 131.02 passer efficiency rating compared to 108.43 for Plumlee.
3. Find another Benito Jones
Jones seems like he was a Billy Brewer signee, and he was a continual presence in the defensive interior throughout his time in Oxford. As a senior, he led the Rebels with 10 tackles for loss.
4. Lose the dog taking a pee act
When DK Metcalf hiked his leg after a touchdown in the 2017 Egg Bowl, the Rebels were leading 24-6 late in the third quarter. Elijah Moore's gaffe was far more costly and scored no points for originality. There are many Ole Miss fans who want to send Moore packing, but here's hoping he learns from his mistake and is among the league's best in 2020. Moore had more touchdown receptions this season than the rest of the Rebels combined.
