Cleveland High School graduate Drew Linkous is returning to his hometown to continue his golf career at Lee University. The Raider Scholar and all-state senior at Cleveland is in his second year at Walters State Community College, where he was a second-team All-American and helped the Senators finish second in the 2019 national tournament with his 11th-place individual performance. "I have spent my golf career at Cleveland Country Club watching the Lee golf teams, and I liked their work ethic and how Coach (John) Maupin led the team," Linkous said in a Lee release Monday. "I have several friends already on the team, and I look forward to playing alongside them. Plus, Lee is a great place to achieve my academic goals." Said Maupin: "I've been so impressed with his growth over the last couple of years. It's a testament to his work ethic and his passion for the game. He's coming to us from one of the top juco programs in the country. This year Drew is getting a chance to lead the team up there at Walters State, and he's doing a great job with that."

* Lee University's Riley Engels from Signal Mountain was named a United Soccer Coaches Scholar All-American for NCAA Division II, and she was joined by teammate Riley Henry as a first-team scholar all-region selection. Lee's Devin Healy and Kelsey Yoder made the scholar all-region third team. Engels had seven goals and five assists this past season and carried a 3.42 grade point average as an education major. Nursing majors Yoder, Healy and Henry had GPAs of 3.98, 3.96 and 3.95.
