2-13: Off the Wall

Modeled after the Hunter Museum's wildly popular Spectrum fundraiser comes a new event with a 2020 twist plus an unexpected one. It should come as no surprise that the auction will offer a virtual component this year, but instead of bidding on pieces from the museum's basement collection, the reimagined fundraiser features art taken "off the walls" of local collectors as well as select opportunities to bid on exclusive commissions by popular local artists. The auction also includes specialty experiences like in-home chef-prepared and served dinner parties. To browse auction items and purchase tickets to the culminating virtual or limited capacity in-person event, visit huntermuseum.org.

8: TEDxChattanooga

Tune in as 15 Chattanoogans from all walks of life share "Scenic City Stories." The talks - from business and nonprofit founders, activists, a rapper/artist, concert pianist, podcaster and more - will challenge, inspire, empower and inform the general public. The talks will be pre-recorded; however, the group will still be live, with ticket holders granted direct access to the speakers and event partners through a private Slack group. For up-to-date announcements, reminders and behind-the-scenes action, follow @tedxchattanooga on Instagram. For tickets, which cost just $5, visit tinyurl.com/TEDxChatt2020.

11: Whiskey 101

Puckett's Chattanooga's first-ever Whiskey University class will pair an instructional overview of the classic spirit with a flight of eight samples. To ensure guests can safely sip whiskey in Puckett's relaxed, down-home atmosphere, class size has been limited to allow for physically spaced seating and all staff will be wearing masks. To secure your $29 ticket, visit tinyurl.com/PuckettsWhiskeyU101120.

12: Hope for the Holidays

Susan R. Latta, LMFT, FT, has spent 38 years as a licensed marriage and family therapist and bereavement counselor and is a Fellow in Thanatology through the Association of Death Education and Counseling. The director of bereavement at Hospice of Chattanooga, she regularly teaches about the complexities of grief, and will be doing so in a free class to help soothe the spirits of those who have experienced loss as the holidays approach. The live session is virtual and will not be recorded. To sign up, visit tinyurl.com/LattaHope101220.

26: Virtual Grateful Gobbler Walk

Just like every Thanksgiving morning for the past 20 years, the Grateful Gobbler Walk will help support Chattanooga's homeless through ticket sales. But this year, instead of convening in Coolidge Park, participating locals will walk, run or stroll in locations of their own choosing where they can practice social distancing. The cost to participate is $30 for adults and $15 for age 12 and under, and every dollar raised directly benefits The Maclellan Shelter for Families. If you prefer to sleep in on the holiday, you can register as a Sleep Walker for $20. Start a "new" Thanksgiving tradition at gratefulgobblerwalk.org or by calling 423-847-5844.
