Citing family reasons, Bo Campbell resigned Wednesday after seven seasons as the head football coach at Lakeview-Fort Oglethorpe High School.
Campbell finished with a 19-51 record in his time leading the Warriors. He took LFO to the playoffs in 2018, when they finished 7-4, one of just three winning seasons for the program since 2004.
Campbell, in his resignation letter to the LFO administration, stated his desire to spend more time with his family.
"Although I felt very blessed to have been part of this great chapter in LFO Warrior Football, I have always put all the LFO Football family first while trying to balance being there for my own family," Campbell wrote. "I have now come to a point in my life where I need to put my own family first and catch up on some lost time.
"I hope everyone understands that this is a hard decision especially when you put 100% into something you love and care about so much. LFO is a very special place filled with great students, teachers, staff and administration and I have loved being the head coach. I have been here for 15 years now teaching while serving seven years as the head football coach, and my pride and love for this school and community makes me feel like I graduated from LFO."
LFO athletic director Chris Eaves said the search for Campbell's replacement will begin immediately.
"Bo has been a great asset to a lot of students, a big part of the LFO family," he said. "We hate to see him go because he's had a lot of influence on a lot of students.
"We hope to hire someone as soon as possible, but we have to have the right somebody. We're not going to cut corners. Want to get back in the position to where we are competing for region championships."
Campbell will remain at LFO as the school's work-based learning coordinator.
"I am an educator first so I still plan on giving my all in helping our students decide career pathways, search for great job opportunities, and pursue their careers," he wrote. "I am very proud of the football program and the great things we have accomplished."
