With more people now working from home for at least part of the week, many people are working out closer to home as well. Online classes and home exercise equipment like Peloton, which grew in popularity during the pandemic, continue to meet the fitness needs of people who work from home. Yet many people like the community aspect of group classes and the motivation and social benefits that come with working out at a gym or studio with other people.

Neighborhood fitness centers are popping up across the Chattanooga area, with offerings ranging from live instructor-led and virtual in-studio training sessions to boutique studios offering specific types of classes, such as yoga or Pilates.

Here are a few of the newest neighborhood fitness studios to check out.

Club Pilates

Club Pilates offers nine types of classes based on Pilates, a style of exercise developed by German physical trainer Joseph Pilates that is focused on body alignment, stretching and strengthening. Classes incorporate various equipment, known in Pilates as apparatus, including the Reformer (a bed-like piece of equipment with a system of springs, ropes and pulleys that can be adjusted to make exercises easier or more difficult), TRX suspension trainers, EXO Pilates chairs, Bosu ball balance chairs, mats, foam rollers and more. Class options range from Club Pilates' signature Reformer-based class to Cardio Sculpt, a low-impact cardio workout using the customizable spring tension of a jumpboard. Club Pilates also offers classes focused on foam-rolling and apparatus-assisted stretching, as well as a boot camp-style class incorporating high-intensity cardio and Pilates-based strength training. Each class is designed for one of four skill levels that are designated on the class schedule. Classes are offered 6 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday through Friday and 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday and Sunday. Class spots are reserved online in advance.

Cost: Packages of four, eight or unlimited classes available. (Per company policy, Club Pilates does not publish prices.) Free 30-minute intro class.
