Things to do in the Chattanooga area this weekend include cave tours, food truck rally, ‘roaring 20s’ market

Sitton's Cave tours, a food truck rally and a "roaring 20s" market are some of the events happening this weekend. Here's a chronology.

ARTS

› In-Town Gallery, 26A Frazier Ave., will conclude its exhibition "Creating Waves With Wax," featuring the encaustic paintings of Margaret Park on Thursday. From 5-8 p.m. Friday, the gallery will host its First Friday celebration for its September exhibition "Earth Crush," featuring the sculptures of Denice Bizot. Primarily working with metals, Bizot is noted for her use of found materials and freewheeling sense of design to create abstract pieces. "Earth Crush" will be on display through Sept. 30. › Association for Visual Arts, 30 Frazier Ave., Suite A, is hosting its juried member exhibition through Sept. 8. All works featured were judged and scored by three regional arts professionals. The works were scored based on technique, creativity, design, visual impact and professional presentation. Out of 87 local artists, 30 were selected for the exhibition. The works represent a variety of mediums, including painting, photography, sculpture, textile and mosaic. The gallery is open noon-5 p.m. Wednesdays and Thursdays and noon-6 p.m. Fridays and Saturdays. Learn more at avarts.org.

› Institute of Contemporary Art Chattanooga continues its exhibition of "When the World's On Fire" by artist Kevin McNamee-Tweed at the UTC Fine Arts Center, 752 Vine St. The exhibition features more than 40 new ceramic paintings and other works created by McNamee-Tweed. The exhibition will run through Oct. 21. The gallery is free and open to the public. Operating hours are 10 a.m.-4 p.m. Monday-Friday and noon-4 p.m. Saturday. Learn more at icachatt.org.

› Hunter Museum of American Art will host Kimmie J Soul and The African Kings and Queens of Classical Soul II for a music performance from 6-7:30 p.m. Thursday. Vocalists Kimmie J Soul, Brandi Jordan, Sonya Henry, Vincent Hale, Michael Dexter and Timothy Harris will perform with accompaniment from an orchestra featuring Gordon Inman Marcia Smith, Given Arnold and Jessica Nunn. › Northside Gallery will have its First Friday open house from 5-7 p.m. Friday at Northside Presbyterian Church, 923 Mississippi Ave. The gallery will feature works by members of the Civic Arts League of Chattanooga. MUSIC

› Composer Tim Hinck will host a Parkside Session concert, with support from ArtsBuild, from 8-9 p.m. Thursday at Parkside Hall, 2035 Polk St. The concert will be largely devoted to Hinck's latest compositions and will feature art objects he has created to accompany the music. His music is described as "riding the line between jazz and classical chamber music." Admission is free; a donation of $20 is suggested. Learn more at timhinck.com.

› Nightfall, a weekly summer music series, concludes this weekend at 7 p.m. Friday at Miller Plaza, 850 Market St. The headliner will be Jemere Morgan, and the opener will be Swayyvo. There will be an art market starting at 6 p.m., and food trucks will start serving at 6:30 p.m. The event is rain or shine, and admission is free. Learn more at nightfallchattanooga.com.

› Barrelhouse Ballroom, 1501 Long St., will have two shows this weekend. At 8:30 p.m. Friday, The Breakfast Club, an '80s tribute band, will perform. › Chattanooga Audubon Society will host Music at the Acres from 1-4 p.m. Saturday at Audubon Acres, 900 N. Sanctuary Road. Teni Rane, a folk-country singer-songwriter, will perform live. › Coal Miners and Veterans Memorial Concert will be from 5-9 p.m. Saturday at Earl Condra Stadium at Whitwell High School, 200 Tiger Trail, Whitwell, Tenn. The concert will feature food, drinks, a variety of vendors and live music performances. Attendees should bring their own lawn chairs. Funds raised benefit the Whitwell Educational and Heritage Center. Tickets cost $20, children under 12 get in free. Learn more at greaterwhitwell.com.

› The Granfalloon, 400 E. Main St., will host a performance by Twisted Pine from 7-9 p.m. Tuesday. In addition to the band's fresh take on bluegrass and folk music, the show will have crepes and cocktails available from Adelle's Creperie. Tickets are $18, children 12 and under get in free. › Tennessee's Sales Tax Holiday on groceries continues through Oct. 31. The holiday exempts food and food ingredients from the state's standard sales tax. The holiday covers most groceries but does not apply to prepared foods, alcoholic beverages, tobacco, candy or dietary supplements. Learn more at tn.gov/revenue/taxes.

› Sankofa, a Chattanooga-based philanthropic organization, will host its eighth-year anniversary celebration from 6-8 p.m. Thursday at ArtsBuild, 301 E. 11th St. The event will feature a community conversation highlighting the organization's work and history. The organization will award up to 10 microgrants to eligible Black organizations and community groups participating in the event. The celebration is free to the public with pre-registration. › Lula Lake Land Trust will have its bi-monthly Open Gate Days from 9 a.m.-5 p.m. Saturday and Sunday at its core preserve, 5000 Lula Lake Road, Lookout Mountain, Ga. Visitors can view Lula Lake, the 110-foot Lula Falls and a bluff overlook. Admission is $16. A guided hike is also available for $40, which includes entry to the preserve. Registration is required. › Cloudland Canyon State Park, 122 Cloudland Canyon Park Road, Rising Fawn, Ga., will offer ranger-led tours into Sitton's Cave starting at 9:30 a.m. Saturday and Sunday. The 2-2.5-hour long tours will have attendees crawling in mud, scrambling over rocks, encountering underground creatures and possibly wading through a subterranean stream to explore the cave environment. › Live and Love Ministries will host its Butterfly Festival from 10 a.m.-3 p.m. Saturday at Heritage High School, 3960 Poplar Springs Road, Ringgold, Ga. The festival benefits the ministry and the Katie Beth Carter Memorial Scholarship Fund. There will be a remembrance run starting at 8 a.m., and the festival starts at 10 a.m. with local vendors, live entertainment, children's activities and a balloon and butterfly release. › Mountain Arts Community Center, 809 Kentucky Ave., will host a "Flapper and Tap'R'" art and farmers market from 10 a.m.-4 p.m. Saturday. The market is themed after the "Roaring '20s," and attendees can come dressed in '20s fashion to shop the variety of local vendors. There will be a magic show at 11 a.m. and 2 p.m. Admission to the market is free, tickets for the magic show cost $13. Learn more at signalmacc.org.

› Chickamauga and Chattanooga National Military Park will host "The Fog of War" starting at 11 a.m. Saturday at the battlefield, 3370 LaFayette Road, Fort Oglethorpe, Ga. The one-hour, ranger-led program will teach attendees about how the weather affected the 1863 Chickamauga and Chattanooga campaigns as well as how the "Battle Above the Clouds" earned its name. › Magic Lamp Entertainment will host "Once Upon a Time › A Magical Musical" at 1 and 6 p.m. Saturday and Sunday at The Colonnade, 264 Catoosa Circle, Ringgold, Ga. There will be musical performances of "Cinderella," "The Little Mermaid" and "Aladdin" at the show. › Barnard Astronomical Society will host its monthly Star Party from 7-11 p.m. Saturday at Cloudland Canyon State Park, 122 Cloudland Canyon Park Road, Rising Fawn, Ga. The society will set up at the park's disc golf parking area. There will be a variety of telescopes and observing opportunities available for attendees. › Scottsboro Three Arts Club will host its 50th annual Art Sunday event from 10 a.m.-6 p.m. Sunday at King Caldwell Park, 1004 S. Broad St., Scottsboro, Ala. The event will feature more than 100 craft, art and food vendors as well as children's activities, food trucks, live entertainment and more. › Chattanooga 9/11 Memorial Stair Climb and 3.43-mile Walk will be from 9 a.m.-noon Monday at AT&T Field, 201 Power Alley. The climb and walk will honor first responders who lost their lives Sept. 11, 2001. Attendees will climb 110 floors of stairs or walk 3.43 miles around the field. The event will begin with an opening ceremony at 9 a.m. followed by the climb/walk at 9:30 a.m. Registration is $45. Learn more at eventbrite.com.

› Signal Mountain Lions Club will host a Labor Day barbecue from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. Monday at Althaus Park, 809 James Blvd. The event will be full of barbecue and will feature a raffle. Hamburgers and hot dogs, drinks, funnel cakes and more will also be available. Food will be available for takeaway. There will be live music, a bounce house, face painting and balloon magic. › The Chattery will host a photography walk and talk class from 6:30-8 p.m. Tuesday at Lula Lake Land Trust, 5000 Lula Lake Road, Lookout Mountain, Ga. Class participants will learn basic techniques of composing photos while on a photography hunt around Lula Lake. Joshua Allen, a full-time photographer and videographer, will lead the class. › Naked River Brewing & BBQ, 1791 Reggie White Blvd., will host "Without a Paddle," a free comedy show, from 7-8:30 p.m. Tuesday in their brewer's lounge.
