Where are workers most likely to quit their jobs?

The U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics estimates more than 4 million American workers quit their jobs in January, even in the face of high inflation.

With more job openings than unemployed people looking for work, workers are able to find other jobs, often with better pay or working conditions, leading to what has been dubbed the "Great Resignation" after the pandemic.

The online personal finance website WalletHub ranked the 50 states and the District of Columbia based on Bureau of Labor Statistics data on how frequently people left their places of employment in January. Nationwide, 2.8% of workers quit their jobs that month, but that quit rate was the highest in these states:

1. Kentucky -- 3.6% quit in January.

2. Georgia -- 3.4% quit in January.

3. Montana -- 3.3% quit in January.

4. South Carolina -- 3.3% quit in January.

5. Tennessee -- 3.3% quit in January.
