With a few days under its belt, Hamilton County Schools is revving up for a big announcement this week.

It's not that Chief Operations Officer Ken Bradshaw is leaving — though he is — but rather it has to do with student achievement and test scores.

The Tennessee Department of Education is slated to release 2018 test data officially on Thursday, but Hamilton County Schools officials are hosting an event on Wednesday to reveal district-level data.

Districts have had their data for almost two weeks under an embargo and officials have hinted all summer that Hamilton County should expect positive surprises.

A big announcement could help change the conversation from the one about race and white privilege that still has a hold on the community.

Ever since slides from a presentation at a professional development training session for teachers on Aug. 2 went viral, many in the community have been speaking about whether or not it's appropriate for teachers to talk about race, racism and similar topics.
