Reporter's Note

Do you know a teacher who is going above and beyond while schools are closed and teaching has moved online? Have an innovative idea for distancing learning? I'm looking for some examples of creative, unique ways teachers are reaching their kids through the computer screen - and I also want to hear about some of the challenges. Send me an email at mmangrum@timesfreepress.com or call 423-757-6592 to share your story!

THIS WEEK IN EDUCATION NEWS

In the wake of the coronavirus pandemic, health care providers and hospitals are expected to run out of medical supplies and equipment.

And here in Hamilton County, schools are stepping up to help.

Hamilton County Schools has collected dozens of 3-D printers from schools across the district and created what some are calling a "3-D printing farm" at STEM School Chattanooga.

There, local educators and innovators are working with others from across the world to manufacture face shields and N95 respirators, or masks, for health care workers on the front lines of the fight against COVID-19.

Keeping reading to learn more about these plans and what the district hopes to accomplish!
