A Hooters restaurantATLANTA - Doctors say a Georgia Hooters waitress and a longtime regular customer at the restaurant are both doing well after a successful kidney transplant.
WXIA-TV reports (http://on.11alive.com/1I0pENe ) that 22-year-old Mariana Villareal gave one of her kidneys to 72-year-old Donald Thomas Friday at the Piedmont Transplant Institute.
Villareal was released from the hospital late Saturday. Doctors involved in the kidney donation said the donor and recipient surgeries went well and Thomas is expected to be home by Tuesday.
The television station reports that Villareal hardly knew Thomas but was inspired to help him because she recently lost her grandmother to kidney failure.
