KNOXVILLE - A rivalry between two of the most historic powers in women's basketball will resume after more than a decade of dormancy.

The Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame announced Tuesday that Tennessee and Connecticut will meet in the 2019-20 and 2020-21 seasons.

A portion of the proceeds from the two-year series will benefit the Pat Summitt Foundation and the hall of fame.

The first game will be hosted by UConn; the second game will take place at Tennessee.

"We are so excited to join UConn for games that will generate incredible interest for women's basketball and benefit the Pat Summitt Foundation, the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame and the Women's Basketball Hall of Fame," Tennessee coach Holly Warlick said in a news release announcing the series.

The programs have a combined 19 national championships and met regularly from 1995 to 2007 during Summitt's prime as the Lady Vols' coach.

Summitt and Connecticut coach Geno Auriemma developed a rivalry that, while heated at times, drew attention and media coverage to women's basketball.

UConn owns a 13-9 all-time advantage in the series.

"I am happy to have the Lady Vols back on our schedule and am thrilled that proceeds to our games will benefit such an important endeavor like the Pat Summitt Foundation," Auriemma said in the news release. "I know our fans will be excited to renew the rivalry with Tennessee and expect them to fill the building for some good basketball and a great cause."
