An off-duty Chattanooga police officer was involved in a single-vehicle crash on Interstate 75 about 7:50 a.m. Friday morning.

Officer is Daniel Mitchum was in a patrol car at the time of the crash, which was at exit four, police spokeswoman Elisa Myzal said. His injuries are not life-threatening.

Chattanooga Police Department's traffic unit is investigating, she said. The incident is also under administrative investigation, something that happens with all officer-involved crashes.

In the meantime, Mitchum will be on on paid modified duty, Myzal said. In his case, he will be assigned to Teleserve, where he will take reports over the phone from citizens.

The reports are non-emergency incidents and typically consist of property damage or missing property calls.
