Basketball Vols will face Cincinnati next two Decembers

KNOXVILLE - The Tennessee men's basketball program announced Tuesday a two-game home-and-home series with Cincinnati, beginning in the 2019-20 season.

The teams will play at Fifth Third Arena in Cincinnati on Dec. 18, 2019, followed by a game at Thompson-Boling Arena on Dec. 12, 2020.

The Volunteers trail the all-time series 1-5 - dating back to 1952 - with their lone win coming in 1956 at home. Cincinnati's Bearcats won two meetings in the early 1990s.

Coming off a 31-win season last year, the Bearcats are 9-1 this year under coach Mick Cronin. They have wins over Ole Miss, UNLV and Xavier.

The Vols are 7-1 and ranked No. 3 in the country after a 76-73 win over previously top-ranked Gonzaga on Sunday. They play Saturday at Memphis (5-4) at noon EDT.

Tennessee will host the Tigers next season as part of a three-year deal ending with a 2020-21 game in Nashville.

The Vols also are expected to be in the Emerald Coast Classic next November in Destin, Florida, along with Florida State, Purdue and Virginia Commonwealth.
