Man charged in Tennessee bank robbery after police standoff

CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. (AP) - Authorities in Tennessee say a bank robbery suspect who barricaded himself inside a Clarksville motel room was arrested after police shot tear gas into his room.

Media reports say 52-year-old Mike Rollins of Clarksville was charged with robbery. Clarksville police say he had two outstanding warrants - one for forgery and one for violation of probation.

Rollins is accused of going into a Bank of America office on Thursday and handing a teller a note demanding cash. Authorities say he fled with an undisclosed amount of money.

Clarksville police spokesman Jim Knoll says a tip led officers to the motel where Rollins barricaded himself Friday. Police evacuated nearby rooms and tried to negotiate his surrender for several hours before tear gas was shot into the room, forcing him out.
