Lake Winnepesaukah Amusement Park opens for its 91st season today, May 5.

Members of Georgia's Office of Insurance and Safety Fire Commissioner hope to speak with the woman who fell from a Lake Winnepesaukah roller coaster, spokesman Glenn Allen said. The woman fell around 2 p.m. Sunday from the Wild Lightnin' ride.

The woman was conscious and alert after the fall, a spokeswoman for the Catoosa County Fire Department told the Times Free Press on Monday. Allen said the woman underwent surgery Monday.

A spokeswoman for the park initially said the victim was taken by ambulance as a precautionary measure.

He said the woman's mother was also on the ride at the time of the fall. Investigators have phone numbers for both women and hope to speak with both of them soon.

Inspectors last reviewed the ride before the park opened in April; it passed inspection at the time. The roller coaster remained closed Tuesday.
