A woman died after running in front of a truck on Chattanooga Road in Dalton on Thursday night, police say.
According to a news release, 40-year-old April Alesi stepped onto Chattanooga Road around 8 p.m., walking toward the area of a gas station. Edward Lamar Cooke, 42, of Dalton, was driving a Ford F-150 north on the outside lane of the road. He said he saw her looking away from him as she stepped in front of his truck. He said he tried to swerve to another lane.
According to the release, witnesses and police officers tried to perform CPR on Alesi after the crash. She was pronounced dead at Hamilton Medical Center.
Dalton police are trying to obtain a search warrant to get the results of a blood test on Alesi. They want to see if she was drunk at the time of the crash. They have not filed charges in the case.
