Expect weekend lane closures on I-24 East bridge over Chestnut Street in Chattanooga

Tennessee Department of Transportation contract crews will have temporary lane closures this weekend on Interstate 24 East on the bridge over Chestnut Street at mile marker 178.6 near the U.S. 27 interchange in Chattanooga, according to a TDOT news release.

Crews will be working to replace deteriorating skid-resistant surface on the bridge.

The work will begin at 9 p.m. EDT on Friday evening, Oct. 12, and should be completed by 2 p.m. EDT on Saturday, Oct. 13. One lane of traffic will remain open on the bridge at all times during this work.

Drivers are encouraged to avoid this area during the repair work. Those who must travel on I-24 East during this repair work should expect long delays. Drivers are urged to obey the signage and pay close attention to changing conditions in the work zone.

This work is weather dependent.Should inclement weather or unforeseen circumstances postpone this work, it will be rescheduled to take place as soon as possible.
