BRENTWOOD, Tenn. (AP) - Federal court documents say the former CEO of a shuttered Tennessee pain clinic company has been accused of plotting to forge a dead patient's signature so Medicare could be billed in her name as part of a kickback scheme.

The Tennessean quotes the documents in a Monday report as saying former Comprehensive Pain Specialists CEO John Davis is accused of emailing about the plan with Brenda Montgomery, who was head of medical device company CCC Medical Inc.

Davis was indicted in April, three months before his company closed. Montgomery was also indicted and both pleaded not guilty.

Prosecutors say Davis took payments from Montgomery for referring patients she would use to bill Medicare and receive roughly $2.6 million in reimbursements.

Davis' attorney, Kimberly Hodde, didn't respond to the newspaper's request for comment.
