South Walker County rattled by 2.6 magnitude quake early Tuesday

A magnitude 2.6 earthquake shook residents near the Georgia-Alabama line between LaFayette and Mentone just before 5 a.m. Tuesday, according to the U.S. Geological Survey.

The quake was more than 9 kilometers, or 5.6 miles, beneath the surface of the earth centered in South Walker County near Rocky Lane east of McLemore Cove, according to USGS data.

No damage was reported.
