Small earthquake shakes Dalton

An earthquake measuring 2.1 in magnitude rattled Dalton, Georgia, residents in the area near Dalton State College and Interstate 75 just before 7 p.m. on Tuesday, according to the U.S. Geological Survey at the University of Memphis.

The quake was almost 12 miles beneath the surface of the earth and was detected as far away as East Brainerd in Tennessee and North Atlanta in Georgia, the USGS report states.

No damage was reported.
