Funeral arrangements have been announced for Dr. Woody Kennedy, a local plastic surgeon who died Monday after an illness.

Kennedy, who was 58, had been hospitalized at UAB University Hospital in Birmingham, Alabama, since Christmas Day, according to his obituary.

A celebration of life will take place at 3:30 p.m. Tuesday at First-Centenary United Methodist Church, 419 McCallie Ave. in downtown Chattanooga. The family will see visitors from 1-3 p.m. before the service. The family asks that attendees wear orange and navy - the colors of his alma mater, Auburn.

"Getting Woody to put on a suit was a hassle and we can't think of a better way to honor him than sporting his
favorite colors," his obituary reads.

Kennedy had been with the Plastic Surgery Group since 1997 and previously served as president of the Chattanooga-Hamilton County Medical Society.

In a statement Monday, Plastic Surgery Group President Dr. Jason Rehm mourned the loss.

"We appreciate the support for Dr. Kennedy and his family during this difficult time. We are devastated by this loss. ... His expertise transformed lives and his sense of humor and larger-than-life personality were part and parcel of the Group. Our thoughts are with Dr. Kennedy's wife Carrie, and their daughters Lydia and Mary Davis."

His obituary recalls his larger-than-life personality and caring nature.

"He was an incredible father, husband, and an extremely talented surgeon and he will be deeply missed," it reads.
