Quake shakes river between Meigs and Rhea counties

A 2.2 magnitude earthquake shook the Tennessee River bottom early Sunday between Meigs and Rhea counties, according to a preliminary report from the U.S. Geological Survey.

The temblor struck at 7:16 a.m. Sunday along the river's Gillespie Bend, a couple miles upstream from Armstrong Ferry Recreation Area.

The quake was about five miles deep, according to officials.
