ATLANTA (AP) -- Atlanta police and a local judge are fighting over the treatment of a teen convicted of gang-related crimes who was rearrested only to be released the next day.
News outlets report the police department took to its Facebook page to air its grievance publicly and decry the "inexplicable leniency" afforded to repeat offenders.
The Friday post says the 16-year-old pleaded guilty at an Aug. 14 hearing and was immediately rearrested in a separate car break-in.
It says a juvenile court judge then released the teen and required he wear an ankle monitor. It says they're now working to revoke the teen's probation so he can be "taken into custody -- where he belongs." The judge, Brad Boyd, says the police statement is misleading and has led to him being threatened.
