Chattanooga police recovered 71 illegally-possessed firearms last month, according to the department's Facebook page.

One of those guns was recovered on Jan. 6 after police executed a search warrant at a home in the 400 block of Shawnee Trail, the social media post states.

Police arrived at the residence at around 3:45 p.m. where 41-year-old Andre Collier and 30-year-old Jolene Bendzak-DeMarco were located.

There, police found a stolen 2018 Nissan Frontier parked in a carport, a loaded Bryco .380 pistol, multiple digital scales and drug paraphernalia, according to an arrest report. They also found a small backpack with $1,422 in cash, 30-40 doses of heroine and one gram of meth.

The two agreed to talk to police, the arrest report states, and Collier admitted to owning the firearm, backpack and having driven the stolen vehicle the night before.

Police also found the vehicle's key under a mattress, though Bendzak-DeMarco said the vehicle had been borrowed, the arrest report states.

Regardless, both Collier and Bendzak-DeMarco were charged with theft of property and possession of drug paraphernalia.

Collier was additionally charged with possession of a firearm during commission or attempt to commit a crime and two counts of drugs for resale.
