OAK RIDGE, Tenn. (AP) - A Tennessee prosecutor says an Oak Ridge police officer was justified in fatally shooting a man who was driving toward him and refused to stop.
The Knoxville News Sentinel reports Anderson County district attorney general Dave Clark said Oak Ridge Officer Nathan Gibson followed policy and the law in shooting 36-year-old Isaiah Ramirez.
The Tennessee Bureau of Investigation determined that officers were trying to serve warrants on Ramirez on Oct. 8, but Ramirez fled and ended up in a parking lot. Authorities say when police tried to block him in, Ramirez drove toward an exit and hit Gibson in the leg.
Clark said since Ramirez "posed a threat of death or serious bodily injury" to the officer, Gibson was entitled to use lethal force.
