Chattanooga police are investigating a Thursday night fatal collision on E. 23rd Street, according to a news release.
The victim is 65-year-old Walter A. Berry.
Berry was driving a GMC Safari and attempted to pass a semi-truck to merge in front of it, but was unable to pass and lost control, striking the semi. The GMC Safari spun out in the roadway and struck a concrete barrier on the bridge.
Hamilton County EMS responded to the scene and transported Berry to a local hospital where he was pronounced deceased.
The investigation is ongoing.
