Chattanooga Housing Authority will release 100 housing vouchers to residents to help those displaced from Chatt City Suites.

The vouchers allow residents to pay market value for a rental and will offset their cost. Now, the city is trying to find landlords with available units who will accept the vouchers.

The vouchers help residents make up the different between what they can pay and the cost of rent. Residents typically pay 30 percent of their rent and the vouchers pay the rest.

Those with available units can call Chattanooga Housing Authority at (423) 752-4893 and ask for housing navigator Theresa Biggs.

The vouchers will go to eligible and qualified applicants living at Chatt City Suites. It's one of several resources the city is making available to those looking for a home.

The housing authority has had a difficult time finding single-bedroom units for rent for low-income individuals. Those are the units they're most targeting.

"We just saw that there weren't a lot of housing options," housing authority voucher director Tammie Carpenter said. "We do have some units available but not enough. We have the capacity with our vouchers to do so, so we thought it would be an excellent fast answer."
