A suspect is in custody after running over a passenger in the fleeing vehicle and leading Collegedale police on a vehicle pursuit into Chattanooga Tuesday afternoon.

Collegedale police spokeswoman Tonya Sadler said the passenger's condition is not known at this time, and it's not known if the passenger will face any charges or if any police officers were injured.

The chase started in Collegedale along Little Debbie Parkway when police attempted to stop the vehicle for multiple traffic offenses, Sadler said in a news release. But the suspect fled as officers approached the vehicle.

Police then ran the vehicle's license plate number and it came back as stolen. Sadler said it was not known from where the vehicle had been stolen.

At some point, a passenger tried to exit the fleeing vehicle and was finally able to get out near the Volkswagen plant but was subsequently ran over by the fleeing suspect. It's not clear how severe the passenger's injuries are.

From there, the suspect continued to flee with multiple police agencies in pursuit.

Sadler did not clarify which route the suspect took, but the suspect vehicle eventually crashed in the area of Shepherd Road where the driver then fled on foot.

Sadler said details were not yet available about what area of Shepherd Road the suspect crashed, and she did not know whether the suspect needed medical attention.

After a ground search, police located the suspect placed the suspect in custody.

Sadler did not identify the suspect or state what charges the suspect or suspects will face.
