KNOXVILLE - Tennessee officially announced the addition of Georgia transfer Deangelo Gibbs to its football team Monday.

The 6-foot-1, 205-pounder was an Under Armour All-American and ranked as a five-star prospect in 2017 by both ESPN and Scout.com. ESPN ranked Gibbs as the top prospect in Georgia while 247Sports.com composite ranking had him as the No. 4 safety prospect.

Rivals ranked him as the No. 6 athlete in the country.

He played in 13 games in two seasons at Georgia, compiling 10 tackles as a defensive back, but he could be a receiver for the Volunteers.

"Deangelo is a guy that I knew, and our staff knew, in recruiting when he was coming out of high school," Tennessee coach Jeremy Pruitt said in a news release. "He's a guy that can play on either side of the ball. He's very tough and has unique ball skills. He's a very instinctive player, and he has size and speed. We are happy to have him at Tennessee."

Gibbs prepped at Grayson and Peachtree Ridge, where he played with current Vols defensive backs Nigel Warrior - his cousin - and Baylen Buchanan. His uncle, Dale Carter, was a former star for the Vols and in the NFL.

He becomes the second transfer to join Tennessee this offseason. Former Michigan defensive tackle Aubrey Solomon signed on Dec. 21.
