The Washington Post reported that Tennessee's senior U.S. senator, Lamar Alexander, broke ranks with Republicans and voted for the Democratic bill.

Alexander has said on social media he opposed the shutdown and was doing everything he could to end it.

The Post said Sen. Johnny Isakson of Georgia also voted for the Democratic bill. The other Republicans who broke ranks were Susan Collins of Maine, Cory Gardner of Colorado, Lisa Murkowski of Alaska and Mitt Romney of Utah, the Post reported.

Senator Marsha Blackburn (R-Tenn.) made a statement after she voted for the GOP plan.

"President Trump and Leader McConnell are to be commended for putting forth legislation that secures the border and re-opens the closed portions of the government. I voted to support the President's plan to build the wall, increase border security and open the closed portions of our government," Blackburn said in the statement. "The Democrats' stubborn refusal to negotiate in good faith throughout this process has been deeply regrettable. The Senate is doing their job and it is time for the House to do theirs. "
