COLUMBUS, Ga. (AP) - A new court date has been set for a Georgia man accused of killing his girlfriend and her three children.

The Ledger-Enquirer reports 27-year-old Travane Brandon Jackson briefly appeared in court Saturday before his preliminary hearing was rescheduled for Friday. He's been appointed a public defender.

Jackson is charged with murder in the deaths of 29-year-old Jerrica Spellman, 3-year-old King Jackson, 1-year-old Kensley Jackson and 1-month-old Kristen Jackson. A welfare check request led authorities to discover their bodies July 17.

Columbus police Chief Ricky Boren said investigators believe Jackson is the children's father.

Boren said the couple had a violent relationship. Jackson was charged in 2018 with simple battery for assaulting Spellman. Police records say she told officers Jackson accidentally pushed her. The case was still pending when she was killed.
