A closed door saved a house in East Brainerd from suffering significant fire damage Tuesday afternoon, according to a news release from Hamilton County Emergency Services.

At 3:45 p.m., a 911 call was made reporting a house fire located in the 9200 block of Charbar Circle. Tri-Community Volunteer Fire Department responded and arrived on the scene reporting heavy smoke coming from the vents of the home. Firefighters entered the home to find a fire on the bedroom floor.

Tri-Community VFD officials said the closed door allowed the fire to burn itself out because of the lack of oxygen in the room. This kept the fire from spreading throughout the entire house.

No injuries were reported but HCEMS was on the scene for any potential injuries to the firefighters. The cause of the fire is undetermined and will be under investigation by the Tri-Community VFD Fire Marshal's Office.
