Controlled burn happening today southeast of Trion, Georgia

The Conasauga Ranger District is conducting a 549-acre controlled burn today in Chattooga County, Georgia, about three miles southeast of Trion, a news release states.

The purpose of the fire is to reduce hazardous fuels including leaf litter and dead vegetation to lessen the threat of wildfire and improve conditions for longleaf pine restoration, the release states.

The district is being assisted by the Southeast Conservation Corps' Veterans Fire Crew, personnel from national forests in Eastern Oregon and the Georgia Forestry Commission.
