The Conasauga Ranger District is conducting a 1,736-acre controlled burn today in Chattooga County, Georgia about seven miles east of Trion.

The burn is intended to reduce hazardous fuels such as leaf litter and dead vegetation to lessen the wildfire threat and improve conditions for longleaf pine restoration efforts, according to a news release.

The district will be assisted by the Southeast Conservation Corps ' Veterans Fire Crew, personnel from national forests in Eastern Oregon and the Georgia Forestry Commission.
