The Conasauga Ranger District is overseeing a 562-acre controlled burn Friday in Walker County, Georgia about eight miles northeast of Resaca.

These burns reduce hazardous fuels such as leaf litter and dead vegetation to lessen the wildfire threat and improve wildlife habitat.

Assisting the district are the Southeast Conservation Corps' Veterans Fire Crew, personnel from national forests in Eastern Oregon and the Georgia Forestry Commission.

For more information, call the Conasauga Ranger District at 706-695-6736.
