An off-duty Ider, Alabama, police officer was arrested Tuesday on suspicion of driving under the influence after he was pulled over by a DeKalb County Sheriff's Office deputy.

Jeremy Pinegar, 32, of Rainsville, was charged with DUI after he was pulled over around 3:30 a.m. CDT Tuesday on Alabama Highway 35 as he was driving a Chevrolet Avalanche west in the middle of the road, according to a sheriff's office news release.

"Those of us that are employed as law enforcement officers are held to the highest standards, and those that cannot conform to those standards have no place in this line of work," DeKalb County Sheriff Nick Welden said in the release. "Drinking and driving is a serious offense as it endangers innocent people on the roadway."

Welden commended the deputy for his alertness and thanked Rainsville police for their help in the traffic stop.
