A probationary officer working in the Chattanooga Police Department's Neighborhood Policing Bureau is the subject of an internal investigation following an allegation of misconduct, according to a statement issued Sunday from the department.
Probationary Officer Lorenzo Caldwell was relieved of duty and will remain on administrative leave until a final disposition is reached in the investigation, officials said in the statement.
The investigation was launched after a report was filed with the department's Special Victims Unit, officials said.
Special Victim's Unit investigators "have opened a criminal investigation after determining that Probationary Officer Caldwell was the primary aggressor in a domestic assault incident," spokesman Trevor Tomas said in the statement. Caldwell is charged with domestic assault.
The investigation is ongoing, officials said.
