Hamilton County Commission elects new chairman, vice chairman

The Hamilton County Commission elected District 1 Commissioner Randy Fairbanks to serve as chairman and District 2 Commissioner Chip Baker to serve as vice Chairman Wednesday morning during annual elections.

As chairman, Fairbanks will be responsible for conducting meetings and maintaining order among the commission. As Chairman pro team, or vice Chairman, Baker will fill in for Fairbanks when needed.

Both Fairbanks, who was nominated by Baker, and Baker, who was nominated by District 6 Commissioner David Sharpe, were challenged by nominations of District 3 Commissioner Greg Martin, nominated both times by District 8 Commissioner Tim Boyd.

Fairbanks will receive a $5,000 pay increase with the position and Baker will receive $2,500, bringing their salaries to $29,417 and $26,917, respectively.

After being sworn in at the beginning of Wednesday's meeting, both positions took affect immediately.

Fairbanks and Baker will hold their positions until elections in Sept. 2020.
