NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) -- The head of Tennessee's COVID-19 team will step down at the end of the month to take a job with a university in South Carolina, Gov. Bill Lee announced.
Stuart McWhorter is leaving the Unified-Command Group to accept a "senior advisory role" at Clemson University, Lee's office said Friday.
McWhorter has only overseen the COVID-19 team since late March. He stepped down as the Department of Finance and Administration commissioner to take over the new position.
A replacement for McWhorter has not been named.
Lee, a Republican, announced the creation of Unified Command on March 23, declaring that it would "streamline coordination across the Tennessee Emergency Management Agency (TEMA), Tennessee Department of Health and Tennessee Department of Military."
With McWhorter leading, other members include Patrick Sheehan, TEMA director; Dr. Lisa Piercey, Department of Health commissioner; Maj. Gen. Jeff Holmes, adjutant general and Department of Military commissioner.
