JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. (AP) - Police are increasing a charge against a woman to first-degree murder after the stabbing death of an East Tennessee State University professor.

On Monday, Johnson City Police said they were informed Friday that 50-year-old Robin Leonard of Johnson City died from her injuries in the Jan. 18 incident.

Police say they are working with prosecutors to increase the charge against 51-year-old Annette Harvey of Blountville to first-degree murder. Police said it appeared that a struggle had occurred in the incident that unfolded in a Johnson City home.

An arrest warrant said Leonard had custody of Harvey's children and there may have been an encounter between the two the day before the stabbing, the Johnson City Press reported.

On Saturday, the ETSU psychology department shared on Facebook that Leonard had died. The Facebook post said the professor was one of the most sought-after instructors in the department.

"Known to many of her adoring students as 'Miss Robin,' she was described by her son Alex as passing away the same way she lived, 'with generosity,'" the department wrote. "She saved three lives by donating organs to those in need."
